more than a patient

HONOURS PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO
For part of my honours project I had to produce a photography portfolio based around a theme that meant a lot to me. I decided to focus on the theme of dementia as both of my grandmothers have been affected.

Dementia is often something that is stigmatised and not openly talked about even though it is
a very common disease. People with dementia are forgotten about, as some argue that they can’t understand what they are going through. As someone who has seen both my grandmothers go through this disease, instead of silencing these people, I want to give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. I want to show that just because someone has been diagnosed with dementia, it doesn’t mean that it is their entire identity and they do still have emotions. They are more than just a ‘patient’.

My six shoots for this portfolio highlight different emotions and situations these people go through and what my grandmothers have gone through.
